Installing 3DSurface Viewer
The 3DSurface Viewer requires the installation of an ActiveX™ component
onto your computer. This ActiveX component contains the graphics software required
by Internet Explorer. It will not affect any other program. Installation is fast
and you need only install the component once; downloading and installing
the Viewer can take less than thirty seconds over a 56.6K modem connection.
Once the installation is complete, you can use Internet Explorer offline
to run the Viewer.
The easiest (and fastest) way to install the
Viewer is to simply browse to the 'Draw
Surfaces!' page. If your computer's security settings
are set to their default values, the Viewer will
automatically download to your machine. Once a local copy has been
cached, a security confirmation will appear verifying the component's Authenticode signature. Click
'Yes', and the component will unpack and register itself. That's
all there is to it!
If your computer's security settings have been
altered, or if you are unable to correctly install the Viewer for
some other reason, follow the 'Full Installation' procedure outlined
below.
After installation, please see the 'Using the Viewer'
page for more information.
Upgrading to Version 2
If you originally installed the Viewer using the 'Full Installation' procedure, an entry for it will exist in your computer's 'Add/Remove Programs'
listing. Select 'Control Panel' from your Start menu, then double click on the 'Add or Remove Programs' icon. Select 3DSurface Viewer
from the list and click the 'Change/Remove' button. Follow the prompts to uninstall the Viewer from your system, then follow the 'Full Installation'
procedure below to install the new version.
Alternatively, if your browser security settings permit it, browsing to the Draw Surfaces! page will initiate
the download of the new version. If your browser does not permit this, or you encounter some other difficulty, please follow the 'Full Installation'
procedure below.
